The Haute Pyrenees provides some of the best walking terrain in Europe, with routes and trails to suit all abilities. The GR10 actually traverses the whole range, covering 850 km from Mediterranean to Atlantic! We are well located to access many beautiful destinations for an exhilarating day out. See “Areas of Natural Beauty” for more information on the surrounding area. In the neighbouring departments there are also many fine sites to be found, notably the Cirque de Gavarnie, which is truly stunning. |
In under an hour guests can drive to Spain, via a tunnel through the mountain, which gives access to the popular and spectacular Sobrabre region in the High Aragon.
At “Le Turounet” we have a range of guide books and a good selection of walking maps for our guests to use, but we would suggest that serious walkers should research and plan their own routes in advance, in order to get the most out of their holiday.
We can also introduce a qualified and highly experienced local English-speaking guide to show guests the best walking trails in the mountains, as well as provide information on the geology, flora and fauna of the area.
Each season brings it own benefits:
In the springtime everything is fresh, the lambs and calves are venturing out and pockets of snow can still be seen on the mountain peaks.
Summer sees vegetation in full splendour, with animals wandering freely. Days are long and warm and all the tourist facilities are available.
The autumn is wonderful, the air is fresh but the skies are often clear and sunny and the trees boast an amazing array of colours.
In the winter, skiing is in full force, but there are a large number of cross country trails and plenty of opportunities for snowshoe walking with a guide.
We offer any number of nights bed and breakfast accommodation, with an optional evening meal if required. We can also provide a packed lunch on request, for a small supplement.
In the summer there is a heated outdoor pool to relax in on your return to the house and in the winter, hot drinks and a welcoming log fire. We have a heated boot room for drying any wet belongings and a large lounge with a variety of entertainment on hand for the evenings.
Walking in the Pyrenees is a joy at any time of year and visitors to “Le Turounet” will find a great location with all the facilities needed to ensure a wonderful holiday.
